These are a few of the small 4"x6" paintings we worked on in the color
theory class.  Ros did a good job with the purple monochromatic and the two complimentary color projects. The pictures are little distorted due to my bad photography.

This watercolor by Ros was created using two drawings, one of flowers and one of squares and rectangles.  The class started with an under-painting using yellow, orange, red and blue.  Then we painted the squares, then the flowers, using those same colors.  Each time you hit a line you have to change color or value.

Color Theory workshop at the Bein Gallery, Kids art in Southlake Studio

The Bein Gallery offered its first workshop today on color theory.  We started reviewing color terms, mixing all the colors for the color wheel, creating a value scale, and mixing complimentary colors to create a monochromatic painting.

I did the painting as a demo for my adult watercolor students.  We started with an under-painting, then negatively painted the grapes and then the leaves.  Then we pushed and added more darks.

Adult art classes at the Bein Gallery in Southlake

This is an example of a demo in the adult watercolor class. Everyone traced the boat on Arches 140# cold press paper using the light board .  They outlined with pen and ink and then we painted with Winsor Newton watercolor paint.  There was a step by step demo.

This is a prisma color pencil drawing by an adult student.  He started taking class a year ago, tried watercolor, oil pastel, chalk pastel, and then prisma pencil.  He has been working on sail boats of all types for the last year.  Friends and acquaintances have started asking for their own special works!!

Adult classes on Monday evenings at 5:30 will continue through the summer.  Due to children's classes and camps in the studio, beginning in  June the Wednesday afternoon class will be changing times, call or email for more information.  Options available are Friday morning or Thursday 5-7pm.

 These two paintings were done as demonstrations as the students painted along, using the same techniques and colors as  the instructor. Done in different classes, one background was done a little differently than the other.
